With
trends constantly changing, it can sometimes be hard
to keep up with home décor dos and don’ts.
Here is a simple guide to help you uncover the latest
home fashion trends.
A recent MSN.com Home & House article provided a
quick guide to the latest and greatest in home décor.
We will take you through some of the biggest current
dos and dont's.
Matching
Rejoice! You no longer
have to visit 800 stores to find the perfect mocha pillow
to match your mocha window treatments. We are no longer
restricted in what how we decorate by a need to match
everything in a room. It is now regarded as much more
interesting to go for a “collected look”
in a room - bringing together different periods, different
materials and even different styles. Focus more on adding
pieces you like to the room and on coordinating the
feel rather than the look.
Go Cozy
Banished are the days of
large, cold rooms with a meaningless fireplace providing
no warmth to the room. Bring together comfortable furniture
in a cozy setting. Provide family and friends a place
where they can be in their comfort zone. Use small,
intimate seating and warm tones to help really inspire
that cozy feeling.
Go Cheap
A higher price tag no longer
means a better product. Don’t be afraid to shop
in non-designer stores. Once you have found something
you think is perfect for one of your rooms, don’t
put it back simply because you don’t think it
is expensive enough.
Flower Power
Flowers always have a way
of giving new life to a room. However, excessive arranging
can make a room feel too formal. The hottest new flower
designs include having only one type of flower in a
vase, or one central flower, and a mass of supporting
flowers.
Swedish Power
Heavy, dark, Victorian-style
furniture is no longer the popular choice. Adding more
light and warmth to a room is now the way to go. Swedish
design is becoming increasingly popular, from light-wood
furniture to old Swedish antiques!
Designer Walls
Even walls have been given
a design boost! Gone are walls that are simple, flat
and painted. “Texture” has become the key
term in wall design. Some key designs choices include
using Venetian plaster, colorwashing and paint stripes.
You could also use textured wallpaper, or use wood to
liven things up through beaded boards, paneling or moldings.
Color
Color is always going
in and out of style. Deep greens, burgundys and mauves
are definitely out. Red, on the other hand, is a big
“yes!” Red is both warm and inviting, and
really adds some flavor to a room. Other colors that
have made a big impact are energizing colors, such as
orange and yellow, memory-prodding colors, such as pink
(especially in pale pastels and watermelon brights),
and complementary colors, such as pairing blue, tan,
white and pale yellow or green.
