| “Ring
out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.”

Out, Wild Bells,” 1809-1892, English Poet

Of The Month |
|
We are now well into winter, and many people have begun to feel
the agony of high heating bills. If you are looking for a way to
save money without instituting a “sweater rule” in your
house, think about installing a programmable thermostat. You can
save up to 15% by programming the temperature to be lower at night
or when no one is home. Although each degree you lower the heat
saves more money, do not swing the temperature more than 6 to 8
degrees, or your furnace will have to work overtime to bring the
temperature up again.

SEASONAL
SUGGESTION
Thinking
of throwing a party to ring in 2005? Be creative, and make it a night
to remember. First, invitations: take a photo of a clock with its hands
at midnight and write your party details on the back; or, blow up latex
balloons, write your details in permanent marker, deflate the balloons
and send them to your guests. If you’re looking for a theme for
your party, try hosting an old-fashioned pajama party or a futuristic
party. To give your guests a souvenir, try giving personalized wine
bottles as party favors, or plastic champagne flutes decorated with
your guests’ names. Whatever you choose to do when throwing your
New Year’s party, make sure to provide plenty of streamers and
noisemakers for the strike of midnight!
